Wolfenden was nominated for this award for the development of their SUPA range of concrete products for the dairy sector – a range launched earlier this year and already proving successful with farm projects across the UK.
The SME Innovation Awards celebrate the progress made by businesses which have completed the University’s Innovation Sprint Programme and were awarded in four categories: Product or Service Innovation; Technology Innovation; Business Model Innovation and the Growth Business Award. Professor Simon Bolton, creator of the Programme, comments,
“Our inaugural business awards are a testament to Lancashire’s most ambitious SMEs. Following completion of our 2018-19 programme, the businesses have implemented significant change within their organisations, which has resulted in profitable growth. We are delighted to share in their success.”
The judging panel for the awards included academics from the University’s Business School and Computer Science Department, as well as Productivity and Innovation Centre staff and the University’s Industry Growth Ambassadors. The winners of each of the four categories were announced at a charity gala at Stanley House in Mellor, where guests contributed to fundraising for Derian House Children’s Hospice.
Richard Moody, Wolfenden’s managing director, completed the Innovation Sprint Programme earlier this year. He comments,
“We were delighted to be shortlisted for this award, and winning it is fantastic. Having completed the Innovation Sprint Programme, I know that all the companies shortlisted are among the most innovative and ambitious in the region. To have our new SUPA products recognised for their innovation means a great deal to us and we thank the organisers and the team at PIC for all their support. Most of all, we look forward to continuing our product developments and our growth plans at Wolfenden and look forward to 2020.”
